About Cynthia

I love works on paper. Writing, illustrating, and binding (with tape and cardboard) my first “artist’s book” at a very young age, I have always been happiest when creating something. Initially entranced with printmaking—first silk screen and later intaglio—I also explored oil painting and sculpture. Then I discovered watercolor. Exuberance, lushness, playfulness, and perhaps awe are some of the qualities I find in nature, beloved objects, interiors and exteriors; occasionally, I attempt to capture the personalities of people and animals. All of these I try to bring forth with color, line, form, etcetera, on a flat sheet of sumptuous paper. I have been painting in watercolor for over 25 years, and my works are in a number of private collections.

Professionally, I have more than four decades of arts publishing experience, including 35-plus years at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Having retired from that career, I now focus on my own creative work, travel, and gardening in North Sandwich, New Hampshire.

Education: BA, Sarah Lawrence College; graduate work, New York University, arts administration and book publishing.
